UHU Madrague (Emergency Accomodation Unit)
The Emergency Accommodation Unit (UHU) was created by the City of Marseille in order to meet the needs of wandering people. It occupies an essential position within the care system for the homeless in Marseille. UHU, managed since 14 November 2016 by the association SOS Solidarités, is a continuation of SAMU Social.
The reception and accommodation structure offers a permanent capacity of 329 places. In the event of the very high emergency system being triggered, it can be increased to 372 places.
UHU offers free emergency accommodation to people in great difficulty, from 16:30 to 09:30, seven days a week and 365 days a year. The accommodated receive a meal on arrival, in the evening and in the morning before leaving the center. Body care and clothing assistance are also provided.
A medical team, present on site, ensures the follow-up of people requiring immediate care. It includes two doctors, three nurses, a care assistant and three medical-psychological assistants for health and hygiene care.
Accommodated people can consult a nurse from 10:00 to 21:00 and a doctor from 07:00 to 21:30. A social worker is also on duty at all times.
A street psychologist works directly in the field with the homeless.
