UHU Madrague (Emergency Accommodation Unit)

The Unité d’Hébergement d’Urgence (UHU) was set up by the City of Marseille to meet the needs of homeless people. It plays a key role in the provision of services for the homeless in Marseille. The UHU, which has been managed by the SOS Solidarités association since 14 November 2016 , is part of the continuity of the SAMU Social.

The reception and accommodation structure has a permanent capacity of 329 places. In the event of a major emergency being triggered, it can be increased to 372 places.

The UHU offer free emergency accommodation for the people in difficulty from 4.30 PM to 9.30 AM, seven days a week and 365 days years.  Those accomodated receive a meal on arrival, in the evening and morning before departure. They also received personal care and clothes.

An on-site medical team monitors people requiring immediate care. The team includes two doctors, three nurses, one orderly and three medical-psychological assistants for health and hygiene care.
Residents can consult a nurse from 10am to 9pm and a doctor from 7pm to 9:30pm. A social worker is also on duty.
A street psychologist works upstream, directly with the homeless.
