Saved by a fixed-term contract

Extract from Récit de Kenji • 30 years old • Man • Japanese

I went to the Prefectture at 6 am and got in the queue. I had to go back a number of times because only a small number of people can be seen each day. When I finally managed to to get a number all they gave me was a form to fill out and return to the Prefecture at a later date. The fact that my girlfriend had a job, a year-long CDD (Contrat à durée déterminée, Fixed-term contract), probably helped my application. If she hadn’t then I think we would had a harder time. According to the CIMADE, the CDD might have been a weakness… but we were lucky and it worked! A month later I was sent the receipt for my residence permit application.
