When I arrived (from Italy) I thought I’d sign up for a language class organised by the ADEF (Association départementale d’Études et de Formation, Departmental Association for Study and Training). An added bonus is that the lessons are remunerated. It’s an intensive course, every day from 8 am to 5 pm. They believe that this effort is important if you are to integrate succesfully. That’s why they paythe students; they don’t have the time to have a job as well. I was 23 years old at the time so I was eligible. They took my application and sent it to Paris. The reply came 5 months later and was not good. As a Pakistani national I had no right to reside in France and therefore they couldn’t pay me.
